Twenty-One Spins
So, I went to see this chiropractor.
He claimed to have studied Eastern medicine and was a medic in the army, so I was hopeful that he might have a multi-layered approach to treatment.
After a 2-hour consultation, listing a plethora of options, I finally asked, "Where would we start? What's the most important thing I should be doing for my spine?"
"Oh! Well, the MOST important thing you can do is go home and find north.
Stand with your pointer fingers outstretched and rotate one time to the right. Then each following day, add a rotation until you're up to twenty-one.”
When I asked for clarification, he explained that this would realign my body's chi with the magnetic north, which would then realign and straighten my spine.
So, I went home to find north. I put my fingers out and rotated once to the right. Then, since that didn't seem like it had done much, I added a few more rotations for good measure.
The next week at my follow-up appointment, I explained that I am a dancer, and I spin around a lot, on a fairly regular basis, and so, if twenty-one is the goal, couldn’t I go ahead and just start with that?
"Oh no!!! We don't know what that would do!"
